rscj today...

"At times we feel uneasy about the diversity of our response to the needs of today's world. Can we respond to everything? What is our particular response? Are we really where we are needed?...We hear these questions and
many others. Each ones apostolic service is part of the common mission of the province, and it is important that each one be 'sent'. In this way it is our mission which unites us, erases boundaries and is stronger than our differences..."

"Madeleine Sophie and all our predecessors invite us to live our mission with the same generosity which characterised the first community of rscj, with a vision of the future, attentive to a changing reality, so that we may know how to respond in a way which is equal to the needs of today".

(Superior General's letter to the Society of the Sacred Heart, June 1997)

The Society is present in 44 countries with approximately 3900 women in 5 continents. In each community we try to listen and respond to the realities of our world in a period of profound change. Our internationality is strengthened by the rich diversity of our cultures and by integration of our differences as we witness the Good News. Each community is challenged and transformed by their local context. We wish to be a prophetic sign and source of life by our welcoming of different cultures and allowing ourselves to be questioned by them.

In England and Wales, there are 127 sisters in 26 communities in Brecon, Leeds, London, Newcastle, Oxford, Woking and Woldingham. Most of these communities are in ordinary houses within the neighbourhoods of towns or cities. Our communities try to live in awareness and sensitivity to the Holy Spirit to enable us to respond, in our mission, to the calls of God in the world around us.

Communication with other communities and provinces makes us aware of the needs of the whole Society and as members of an international Society we are ready to serve wherever we are sent.
