why I stay...
'Many advertisers promise us the unimagined made possible, the dream a reality.'
In my late teens, early twenties I expected my life to follow a simple pattern ...become a teacher, marry, have a family and so on. But I was taken by surprise, even fear, by an inner urgency to shake free from the expected and explore how to respond to a deeper call to love. It was quite literally like being hit on the head when the realization that what I was seeking was to be found in religious life. Not at all what the adverts say and yet in the Society of the Sacred Heart the unimaginable had been made real.
Here I have experienced the God of Love who invited me to make a choice and through my vows, lived in community, to become the person I have been given the potential to be. The support and challenge of community, both local and international, is enabling me to discover what living in response to the God of Surprises can mean. Working with and alongside young people in my varying ministries has brought many joys and the ever challenging call to authenticity. Life and prayer shared has enabled dreams to be shaped and kept hope alive when days have been dark, daily life a turmoil of confusion and God has been a Hidden God.
For me the promise, 'When you seek me with all your heart I will let you find me' (Jeremiah 11-13) and 'It is I' (John 6:20) have spoken to me and recalled me to life.
